Two of Nottinghamshire’s under-16 squad will make their Lord’s debuts in this Sunday’s Cawston Press Village Cup final.

Leighton Ambrick and Harry Ballard will step out on the famous ground for Notts club Cuckney, who have fought off competition from more than 400 village cricket clubs across Great Britain to make it to this year’s final.

Opening batter Ambrick and opening bowler Ballard are both on Notts’ books and have played important roles in getting their side to Lord’s, where they will face Surrey club Blackheath.

Ahead of the final, captain Richard Bostock heaped praise on the younger members of his squad.

“Time and again it's been the younger lads standing up in the biggest moments, and as captain that's been one of the most rewarding things to watch," he said.

“They've shown composure way beyond their years.

“Personally, leading this group out at Lord's will be a huge honour.

“Sharing that dressing room with this group of players and seeing them experience it for the first time will be incredibly special.”

Should they win on Sunday, Cuckney will become the first Notts club to win the Village Cup in the tournament’s 54-year history.

Collingham are the only side from the county to have ever made it as far as the final before this year. They were runners-up in 1974 and 1982.

If they succeed, Cuckney will also become the first club to lift both the National Village Cup and the National Club Championship, which they won in 2023, at Lord’s.
