Nottinghamshire’s Joe Clarke and Mohammad Abbas, and Georgia Elwiss and Kathryn Bryce of The Blaze, have all been named in their respective men’s and women’s PCA Teams of the Month for May.

Using the PCA’s Most Valuable Player rankings’ unique algorithms, the four players have been picked based on their prowess with the bat, ball and in the field across May.

Elwiss, having collected more points in the MVP rankings than anyone else throughout May, captains the women’s side.

Scotland captain Bryce appears in the team for the second consecutive month, with both also having been individually nominated for the women’s Player of the Month award for May.

Elwiss hit four half-centuries over the course of the month, including an unbeaten 75* in a memorable Metro Bank One Day Cup win over Somerset, to average 58.17 with the bat

She also amassed back-to-back fifties to start the Vitality Blast, alongside taking eight wickets at 22.25, while Bryce hit three half-centuries at 43.57 and claimed five wickets.

Meanwhile, Clarke ended the first block of Vitality County Championship action with a purple patch, striking a century against Durham and twin fifties away to Yorkshire.

He carried his form into the Blast opener at home to Bears, hitting 58 from just 23 balls, to rack up an all-formats average of 45.63 over the month.

The combined Nottinghamshire and Blaze quartet is completed by Mohammad Abbas, who picked up 16 Championship wickets at just 18.81 apiece in his first three games.

The PCA’s Most Valuable Player rankings, powered by OFX, work by comparing a player’s accomplishments against the expected performance for that game.

Runs and wickets achieved at each ground are also considered and compared to the average, which enables players to score MVP points on every ball through CricViz’s extensive historical database.
