Liam Patterson-White and Fergus O’Neill made important contributions as Nottinghamshire set up a potential day four victory push against Hampshire.

Patterson-White hit 48, sharing a stand of 53 for the eighth wicket with O’Neill, to nudge the visitors to 229 all out in their first innings, narrowly but crucially in front of Hampshire’s 214.

The latter then produced a typically metronomic spell of 2/19 from 11 overs as the hosts reached a rain-enforced early close on 82-4, leading by just 67.
