18:35 BST: MATCH DRAWN

That is that for this game and for Nottinghamshire's pre-season preparations.

Practice complete, and Taunton now awaits on Friday.

18:30 BST: FIFTY FOR LIAM PATTERSON-WHITE

A masterful display of counter-attacking cricket sees Liam Patterson-White strike a 36-ball half-century as the game draws to a conclusion.

It's taken him 55 minutes, and has included six fours and three sixes.

Nottinghamshire 190-6 (51.4) | L Patterson-White 50, L James 17

17:35 BST: Wicket (Verreynne lbw b Higgins 0)

Kyle Verreynne is lbw to Ryan Higgins shortly after arriving at the crease.

Nottinghamshire 116-6 (38.2) | L James 0

17:30 BST: Retirements (Clarke, retired out 29 | Haynes, retired out 25)

38 overs in and both Joe Clarke and Jack Haynes voluntarily leave the middle, to be replaced by Kyle Verreynne and Lyndon James.

Nottinghamshire 116-5 (38) | L James 0, K Verreynne 0

16:45 BST: Retirement (Slater, retired out 25)

Ben Slater calls it a day at the crease and makes way for Jack Haynes.

Nottinghamshire 70-3 (25) | J Clarke 8

16:30 BST: Wicket (McCann c Cracknell b Sharma 1)

Freddie McCann nicks off and the edge is taken by Joe Cracknell behind the stumps.

Joe Clarke heads out as the new batter. The floodlights are on as it becomes gloomy over Trent Bridge once more.

Nottinghamshire 60-2 (22.1) | B Slater 23

16:00 BST: TEA

Confirmation that tea has been taken while the players are off, and an expected restart time of 16:15 has been issued.

15:45 BST: RAIN DELAY

Another interruption sees the players again come off. No confirmation yet on whether that will see the tea break taken.

Nottinghamshire 52-1 (18.2) | B Slater 16, F McCann 0

15:35 BST: Wicket (Hameed c Cracknell b Sharma 24)

The ball after handsomely driving Naavya Sharma for four to bring up his and Ben Slater's fifty partnership, Haseeb Hameed is caught behind by Joe Cracknell.

Freddie McCann is the new batter to the crease, with just over half an hour to go until the scheduled tea break.

Nottinghamshire 52-1 (16.1) | B Slater 16

15:30 BST: 50 PARTNERSHIP

Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater post a half-century stand in the 17th over of Nottinghamshire's innings.

Nottinghamshire 52-0 (16.1) | H Hameed 24, B Slater 16

14:40 BST: PLAY RESTARTS

There are now indeed cricketers on the Trent Bridge turf.

Sebastian Morgan completes his over from the Stuart Broad End, and Toby Roland-Jones - whose figures currently read 2-2-0-0 thus far - is continuing from the opposite end.

Nottinghamshire 15-0 (4) | H Hameed 8, B Slater 1

14:35 BST: Nottinghamshire 15-0 (3.3) | H Hameed 8, B Slater 1

The covers are once more being brought off and the umpires are in the middle again.

No sign as yet of any players, but hopefully there shouldn't be too much of a further delay until play can restart.

14:20 BST: RAIN DELAY

One of those days...

The covers are being brought back on as another passing shower is deemed too heavy by the umpires.

Nottinghamshire 15-0 (3.3) | H Hameed 8, B Slater 1

14:00 BST: PLAY RESTARTS

Thankfully the clouds moved on during the break and the sun is back out at Trent Bridge.

That's welcome news for Nottinghamshire opening batters Ben Slater and Haseeb Hameed, who are now in the middle to commence the hosts' innings.

Nottinghamshire 4-0 (1) | H Hameed 0, B Slater 0

13:15 BST: RAIN DELAY & EARLY LUNCH TAKEN

A menacing-looking deep grey cloud has settled in over Trent Bridge, and the umpires have taken the players off the field with the drizzle getting too heavy to play through.

Lunch has been taken in the meantime, meaning that that concludes Middlesex's innings. Nottinghamshire will bat from the resumption through to close.

13:00 BST: RETIREMENT (du Plooy retired out 43)

Leus du Plooy decides his time in the middle is complete, and he retires out, to be replaced by visiting wicketkeeper Joe Cracknell.

Rob Lord is back on for a bowl from the Radcliffe Road End.

Middlesex 167-5 (40) | R Higgins 28

12:00 BST: WICKET! Geddes b Stone 0 (1)

Got him first ball!

Following Josh de Caires' retirement for a 90-ball 55 at the conclusion of the 28th over, Ben Geddes made his way to the middle - only to be sent back two minutes later as he makes a mess of a leave and is bowled by Olly Stone for a golden duck!

Ryan Higgins is the new batter.

Middlesex 123-4 (29) | L du Plooy 23, R Higgins 4

11:35 BST: Middlesex 90-2 (23) | L du Plooy 10, J de Caires 39

Happily, the 11:10 inspection was a successful one, and play is now underway.

Lyndon James and Olly Stone are taking the opening overs for the hosts, with Josh de Caires and captain Leus du Plooy in the middle for the Seaxes.

10:50 BST: Welcome news from the middle.

The players are out warming up, and the covers are off. The umpires will inspect conditions at 11:10, with a view to re-starting at 11:30 provided there is no further rain.

From there, lunch will be taken at 13:30, tea at 16:10, and the scheduled close is set for 18:30.

10:25 BST: Pleasingly, the rain has now stopped and the groundstaff are heading out to the middle to inspect conditions.

We'll hopefully have more news on a potential start time shortly.

10:15 BST: Well... having said that the skies were turning blue and the sun was out, it looks like we spoke a little too soon.

The rain has returned to Trent Bridge over the last half-hour and it appears that unfortunately, we'll be looking at another delayed start.

09:45 BST: We're even now seeing some blue skies bursting through as we begin the first full week of British Summer Time at Trent Bridge!

A reminder of the two 13-strong squads involved in this game:

Nottinghamshire: Haseeb Hameed*, Ben Slater, Freddie McCann, Joe Clarke, Jack Haynes, Kyle Verreynne+, Lyndon James, Liam Patterson-White, Rob Lord, Olly Stone, Dillon Pennington, Farhan Ahmed, Tom Giles.

Middlesex: Sam Robson, Josh de Caires, Max Holden, Leus du Plooy, Ben Geddes, Ryan Higgins, Joe Cracknell+, Zafar Gohar, Sebastian Morgan, Toby Roland-Jones, Noah Cornwell, Naavya Sharma, Tom Helm.

08:45 BST: REVISED PLAYING CONDITIONS

The truncated nature of day one has meant that both sides have agreed to start play at 10:30 this morning.

An earlier start will see Nottinghamshire bowl for a lengthened morning, and following lunch - set for 13:00 - the sides will then swap, with the hosts to bat for the final two sessions.

08:30 BST: A warm welcome to the live coverage of day two of Nottinghamshire's pre-season friendly against Middlesex at Trent Bridge.

Today very much has an air of 'shall we try again?' about it, after only 21 overs were possible yesterday.

Thankfully, the sun is doing its best to poke through in West Bridgford this morning, and the weather forecast suggests that - although we are in for another chilly one - there is a low chance of any further rain.
