Charley Phillips and Liam Patterson-White have been named as the Women’s and Men’s John Pye Auctions Player of the Month for May, respectively.

Seamer Phillips, 23, kick-started May with her first career five-wicket haul, claiming 5/49 in a comprehensive win away to Durham, before taking a further 13 scalps in the month.

In all, her 18 wickets across seven games - four in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and three in the Vitality Blast - came at a meagre average of just 13.50.

Phillips, who sits atop the wicket-taking charts in the One Day Cup, has also been recognised externally, with her inclusion in the PCA Women’s Team of the Month for May.

Meanwhile, spin-bowling all-rounder Patterson-White capped off his month with a call into England Lions’ squad for two four-day matches against South Africa A.

Prior to that, he also began the month with a five-wicket haul, returning 5/53 in the second innings of a crushing ten-wicket Rothesay County Championship victory over Leicestershire.

Having taken another scalp in the first innings of that game, he then claimed a further six wickets in his two subsequent Championship matches in May, for a total of 11 at 24.45 apiece.

What was also particularly standout about Patterson-White’s May was that, in his role of tying down an end, he sent down a marathon 120.5 overs across the three games he played.

Phillips and Patterson-White will be presented with their awards during the home Vitality Blast double-header on Friday 5 June, with both their sides facing Warwickshire Bears.
