Ben Martindale’s belligerent century handed Nottinghamshire 2nd XI a comfortable five-wicket victory over Lancashire in a 50-over friendly at Emirates Old Trafford.

Martindale bludgeoned 105 from just 78 balls, including 15 fours and two sixes, as the Green and Golds successfully chased down a target of 217 with more than 17 overs to spare.

Tom Moores also struck a 59-ball 71 that contained ten fours and a six, sharing a swift fourth-wicket partnership with Martindale that was worth 78 from 72 balls.

It added up to see the visitors to a routine win, after four bowlers had earlier all claimed two wickets each to dismiss the Red Rose for a below-par total.

Daniel Sams, making his first appearance in a Notts shirt, returned 2/23 from 3.5 overs, while Rob Lord, captain Matt Montgomery, and Zain Latif all collected a brace too.

Opener Jack Lees, who top-scored with 68, and Arav Shetty, who added 60, were the only Lancs players to pass 25, as they suffered a collapse of eight for 44.

Once Montgomery had hit 21 to kick-start Notts’ chase, Martindale and Moores took the game away from the hosts, before Dane Schadendorf struck the winning four.
