Liam Patterson-White’s late batting pyrotechnics were not enough for Notts Outlaws against Worcestershire Rapids as the hosts fell short by 25 runs in the Vitality Blast at Trent Bridge.

Patterson-White hammered a joint-innings top score of 39 from just 19 balls, but Adam Hose's belligerent 51-ball 95 proved the defining knock for the visitors.

Hose’s innings included 13 boundaries, and he received support from Kashif Ali’s 51, despite two wickets for Dillon Pennington.

Patterson-White responded alongside Tom Moores, who also made 39 before falling, but the duo’s efforts were in vain as the Outlaws were unable to overhaul their target.

Earlier, Daniel Sams saw Notts off to a strong start as he executed a sharp piece of fielding to run out Rapids captain Brett D’Oliveira at the striker’s end from the first ball he faced.

The first-ball theme then continued as Pennington struck with his opening delivery, seeing Ed Pollock swipe to Matt Montgomery at backward square leg for one.

However, Ali and Hose turned the tide throughout the first half of the innings, together adding 72, as the former, who hit seven boundaries, went to his half-century in 32 balls.

A key breakthrough was provided by Calvin Harrison when Ali skied to Lyndon James at long-on just before the midway point.

But a further weighty partnership, this time between Hose and Ethan Brookes, followed for the fourth wicket, as a further 79 was added.

That included Hose becoming the second Rapids man to post a 32-ball fifty, doing so shortly after his team had reached three figures in the 13th over.

The breakthrough was again provided by spin, as Liam Patterson-White tempted Brookes, on 32, into one big swing too many, with Sams taking the catch at deep midwicket.

With Ben Dwarshuis for company, Hose continued on, but was halted in the final over while five short of his hundred as Pennington struck again, pinning him lbw.

His innings had been enough to take the visitors past 200, and Tom Hinley added a further four from the final two balls to lock in the target.

A difficult task became tougher early on when Lyndon James departed in the first over, only for Joe Clarke and Jack Haynes to both hit sixes to kickstart the chase.

However, the wicket of Haynes restricted the hosts to 44-2 after the powerplay, and another boundary did not follow until the ninth over, when Clarke struck two in a row.

The skipper was accompanied by a counter-attacking Moores as he moved into the 30s, before holing out off Tom Taylor for 31.

Sams struck two sixes as the Outlaws looked to accelerate past three figures before he departed at the hands of Ethan Brookes for 20, but Moores and Matt Montgomery combined to take 16 runs from the 15th over, bowled by Fateh Singh, to keep home hope alive.

Moores ultimately perished off Duffy for 39, bringing a proactive Patterson-White to the middle, hitting boundaries from each of his first three balls.

Montgomery's cameo yielded 15 from eight balls, but it was all-rounder Patterson-White who led the late charge, with 24 of his 39 runs coming in boundaries.

Ultimately, however, Dwarshius and Duffy tightened the screw in the final two overs, as the Outlaws fell short.
