Joe Pocklington reflected on tough bowling conditions in Kibworth today, as the Outlaws slipped to a 124 run loss to Leicestershire Foxes.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat first, setting the visitors a target of 333-8.
“I think that 330 probably was gettable on that pitch, but we lost wickets in clumps and we maybe let them get 15, 20 too many as well,” Joe said.
“That’s definitely an area we’ll be looking to work on, like we did in that game against Worcester. But that’s probably where we lost the game.
“They were 160 off 25 overs and that's a tough place to draw it back from. I think we did that to an extent. But with wickets in hand coming into that final powerplay they were able to push on.”
Pocklington took 2-42, with Liam Patterson-White and Rob Lord the other bowlers to take two wickets apiece.
“When I came on they had two set batters, two left handers, and I was bowling at a difficult end going downwind. So when I came on I just wanted to minimise damage there – then when I found my rhythm it was a case of trying to find a wicket,” he recalls.
“I wasn’t planning on trying to get a wicket caught at long-on but that’s the way it goes sometimes. But from there I was just trying to build into my spell and try and get as many dots as I could. I thought I bowled well so I’ll take a bit of confidence from that.
“It was tough bowling conditions – very flat out there. I had a bit of luck with a bit of grip and a bit of turn, but I think for the seamers it was hard work. It’s a very quick pitch and a quick outfield so it was a bit of a bowler’s graveyard to be honest.”
With a trip to Glamorgan up next before two home games at Trent Bridge over the Bank Holiday weekend, Pocklington reflected on the side’s fortunes in the tournament so far.
“It was a tough result for us but we know that we've got it in the locker to do well in this competition,” he said.
“We pulled it out of the bag against Worcester, after a very professional win against Essex, so we're just hoping that we can find that form again in the next couple of games and showcase the ability that we've got in the dressing room.
“Result wise we’ve been very hit and miss, obviously we want to sort that out so we can have a crack at being part of the Final at home in September.”
