Kathryn Bryce sang the praises of the Trent Bridge crowd after seeing her Manchester Originals side to victory over Trent Rockets in the first half of a Hundred double-header.

Bryce, a mainstay of The Blaze’s successes in recent summers, found herself in the unusual position of being on the away side at Trent Bridge, but turned in a showstopping performance at her domestic home venue.

The Scotland skipper followed a two-wicket showing with the ball with an unbeaten 61 from 45 balls at the Originals secured a ten-wicket win with 18 deliveries to spare.

“It was great to see a few Blaze shirts still out there!” she said.

“It’s one of the best cricket crowds in the game – they’re really knowledgeable and they appreciate good cricket.

“They weren’t fully supporting us today maybe, but it’s great to see so many people out there supporting the women’s game.

“It’s nice to be back somewhere with so many home familiarities, and to put on a performance.”

Bryce has impressed at the top of the order for the Originals during The Hundred, despite often occupying a middle-order berth in her outings for The Blaze.

The all-rounder has enjoyed the challenge – even if she feels there was little advantage to be gained from her more in-depth knowledge of home conditions.

“It’s an exciting challenge to be at the top of the order, but it’s something I’ve done domestically, so I’m trying to stay true to what I’ve done well there and take that into this tournament,” she said.

“I think a lot of the girls have played here a fair bit internationally and domestically.

“The pitches can change a fair bit through the summer, so it was just about trying to assess how it was playing and adapting.”

Bryce came up against a number of her Blaze stablemates at Trent Bridge, with domestic captain Kirstie Gordon among those donning Rockets yellow.

But the 27-year-old admitted that pleasantries were kept to a minimum during the contest.

“She didn’t say much – I’m sure she’ll have a few words to say after the game though!” Bryce joked.

“It’s nice to see each other when you get the chance during the tournament, but it stays nice and competitive when you’re out there on the day.”
