Pakistan seamer Mohammad Ali has expanded his deal with Nottinghamshire and will now be available for selection for the duration of this season’s Vitality Blast.
Ali had previously agreed a deal to cover the final two months of the summer, a period that would have seen him appear in the Rothesay County Championship and the Metro Bank One Day Cup.
However, an agreement has been reached to bring forward the 33-year-old’s arrival at Trent Bridge, and he is now set to play a part in all three formats in 2026.
“I am really pleased to get the opportunity to come to Trent Bridge earlier than expected, and I am really looking forward to the Vitality Blast,” said Ali.
“I was already really excited about the chance to come and play in England, so when I was told there was a chance to come earlier, I said yes straight away.”
Ali was the second-highest wicket-taker in the most recent edition of the Pakistan Super League, claiming 20 scalps at just 18.95 apiece, as his Hyderabad Kingsmen side finished as runners-up.
He has three caps for his country in the shortest format, all in the same series away to New Zealand in March 2025 - during which he made big-hitting opener Tim Seifert his maiden IT20 wicket.
That was the culmination of a successful six weeks for the right-armer, who also lifted the Bangladesh Premier League trophy with Fortune Barisal a month before that series.
“I have heard a lot about how good Trent Bridge is to play at, and I can’t wait to meet the team and play in front of the brilliant fans,” added Ali.
“I think we have a really good squad this year and I am excited to play with them and hopefully go really far in this competition.”
While Ali has enjoyed success in T20 cricket across his career, he also tasted additional white-ball glory by lifting Pakistan’s domestic 50-over trophy with Central Punjab in 2022.
Under the tutelage of Paul Franks, Ali claimed six wickets in five games, including 2/31 in the final, during that victorious campaign.
Nottinghamshire Head Coach, Peter Moores, added: “It’s great news that we’ve been able to secure the services of Mohammad a bit earlier than planned.
“When it became clear last month that we’d have to find another overseas player for this year’s Vitality Blast, Mohammad was the obvious choice.
“With his recent performances in the PSL, I’m really excited by what he can bring to our group, and Paul Franks has always spoken highly about his ability as well as his character.
“He’ll add a lot of experience and quality to our group, which is what we want from our overseas players, as we look to hit our targets in the Blast this year.”
