Ben Duckett has withdrawn from the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League and will now be available for Nottinghamshire in the early part of the 2026 season.
The 31-year-old was set to make his debut in the competition after signing for Delhi Capitals at December’s auction for Rs 2 crore (approximately £159,000).
However, he has now opted to withdraw and will instead be available for selected early rounds of Notts’ Rothesay County Championship title defence.
“I have given this a lot of thought, and it has not been an easy choice,” said Duckett. “[I want to] play some four-day cricket for Notts, and try to find that form I had last summer.
“It felt like the best thing for me to do to be ready to play for England is to be here right now, at home, refreshing my mind and body.”
He continued: “I want to work with Peter Moores, who knows my game inside out. It’ll be so refreshing, and good for my game, to go back to him. He’s a big part of where I am today.
“He knows where I’ve come from and [he] will be a massive help for me. He might spot some nuggets that I’m doing differently from a year ago.
“[I will] just keep everything open and relaxed, go back to the drawing board, and see if there’s anything to refine.”
Nottinghamshire commence their 2026 Championship campaign away to Somerset from Friday 3rd April, before their first home fixture sees Glamorgan visit Trent Bridge a week later.
“We are supportive and fully understanding of Ben’s decision, which we know he did not make lightly,” added Director of Cricket, Mick Newell.
“We are obviously very pleased to see him become unexpectedly available for us in the early part of the 2026 season, and we will continue to give him our full support in his career.
“While we are still working out the exact fixtures that he will be available to play, I’m sure I’m not alone in saying I look forward to seeing him in Nottinghamshire whites again very soon.”
