Ben Stokes says the “great memories” that England hold at Trent Bridge will drive them forward in this week’s series decider against New Zealand.
“We’ve got some special memories here at Trent Bridge, not only under my captaincy but also as an England cricket team,” said the Three Lions captain.
“Looking back, I remember when I was younger, when we won the Ashes here in 2015, and this is where we gave English fans one of the most enthralling days.
“Whether you were here watching live, or if you were watching on the TV when we did that run chase against New Zealand, this ground has some great memories for us.”
The Rothesay Test series against the Black Caps is locked at 1-1 after the hosts went in front in the opener at Lord’s, before the tourists levelled proceedings at the Kia Oval earlier this week.
With England holding a strong recent record at Trent Bridge, unbeaten in four consecutive Tests and losing just two of their last 13 matches in Nottingham, Stokes is bullish.
“That’s how excited we are; I think, when we walk out there tomorrow to sing the anthem, we can take some very, very fond memories of this ground,” he said.
“Focusing on the cricket, and having good positive vibes around results that we do have at this ground, it does help. Genuinely, it does.
“I’m very excited about what this week holds, because I know how big this series is. It’s always great to play against New Zealand, and we’re desperate to get the win.”
