Joe Clarke leads a shortlist of four players nominated for the PCA Men’s Player of the Month award for April.
Clarke, 29, hit 449 runs in the three games he appeared in during the opening month of the summer at an average of 74.83, placing him at the top of Division One’s leading run-scorers.
He registered three fifties and one century across his six innings, and is joined on the list by Somerset’s Craig Overton, Warwickshire captain Ed Barnard, and Jamie Smith of Surrey.
The PCA MVP shortlists, powered by OFX, are calculated by means of a ranking system, where players earn points for their batting, bowling, and fielding contributions across every fixture.
This then produces an overall table of players, giving rise to the four-strong shortlist from which the overall MVP is picked via a 50:50 split between the MVP rankings and a public vote.
Clarke amassed 98.51 MVP points in April, putting him top of the overall rankings, and in pole position heading into the public vote, which is open until 10:00pm BST on Friday 1 May.
The highlight of Clarke’s April was the second-innings 136 he racked up against Glamorgan that propelled Notts to a 192-run win on day four.
However, he also notched 92 against Somerset in Taunton during the season opener, as well as 94 and 82 in the first and second innings, respectively, last week against Warwickshire.
Once the vote closes tomorrow at 10:00pm, the winner of the April award will be announced on Thursday 7 May.
