Haseeb Hameed has been named a 2026 Wisden Cricketer of the Year.

The Nottinghamshire captain led his side to their first County Championship title for 15 years last summer, while also scoring the second-most runs in Division One.

Hameed hit 1,258 runs, passing the thousand-run milestone for the second season in succession, at an average of 66.21.

His runs included four centuries – two of which he doubled up on – while his leadership took Notts to the domestic game’s most coveted crown.

The Cricketer of the Year award is the oldest individual award in cricket and dates back to 1889. Selection is primarily based on performances in the previous English summer, which is judged as the major criteria for inclusion. No one can win the award more than once.

Hameed is the sole English representative on the 2026 list, and is joined by four India players who starred in last year’s Test series – Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj.

He becomes the 32nd cricketer to receive such recognition while a Nottinghamshire player – and the first since Chris Read was named among the five recipients in 2011 after leading his side to the Championship crown.
