Ella Claridge asserts that The Blaze are determined to put last week’s defeat to Lancashire behind them with a strong performance away to Surrey tomorrow.

Despite Claridge top-scoring with 63, The Blaze went down by four wickets against the Red Rose at Emirates Old Trafford.

“We’ll definitely be raring to go tomorrow, to bounce back after the loss,” said Claridge, who hit five fours in her 74-ball innings in Manchester.

She has been named in a 13-player squad to travel to Beckenham to face the Brown Caps, alongside new overseas arrival Maddy Green.

“It’s great to have another international around the group,” said Claridge, of 32-year-old New Zealand international Green.

“She brings a lot of experience with her, and hopefully that will show in the games. I’m really looking forward to seeing how [she] goes.”

“The squad feels good and strong. It’s been nice personally to have a couple of games after coming back from an injury,” she added.

“I’m feeling good with my batting at the moment and like I can progress through the gears quite nicely, so hopefully I can replicate the Old Trafford innings tomorrow at Beckenham.”

In her efforts to do so, Claridge will have the benefit of familiar surroundings at the venue in south-east London.

“I know [Beckenham] quite well,” she said. “We’ve played there quite a few times in the last couple of years. It’s normally quite a good batting deck, so hopefully a lot of runs to be scored.”

If Claridge is expecting a high-scoring affair, she is also certainly under no illusions about the strength of the opposition that The Blaze will encounter tomorrow.

Surrey have begun their season with two wins and four defeats, but recorded a sizeable DLS-calculated 101-run win over Somerset in Taunton in their last outing.

“They definitely have a line-up that’s full of talent,” stressed Claridge.

“While some might say they have underperformed a little bit so far this season, we absolutely cannot underestimate them with the side that they’ll be putting out.”
