Mohammad Abbas shone with a six-wicket haul as Nottinghamshire took control of their Rothesay County Championship fixture with Yorkshire at Headingley.
Abbas returned figures of 6/45 as the hosts, having resumed on 10-2, were bundled out for 159, handing Notts a first-innings lead of 69.
Batting again, the Green and Golds then manoeuvred themselves into a position of strength thanks to Joe Clarke’s second half-century of the game.
The left-hander struck an unbeaten 73, to go with his first-innings 64, as Notts reached stumps on 227-3, in front by a comfortable 296.
Beneath grey Headingley skies, the visitors were afforded a dream start when Dillon Pennington, making his return from injury, snared an early brace.
He first had James Wharton easily held by Liam Patterson-White at first slip, before Freddie McCann took an altogether more athletic grab in the cordon to remove nightwatcher Jack White.
Dawid Malan counter-attacked with a 45-ball 64 that included 12 boundaries, of which four were heaved maximums over the leg-side.
However, he too was soon sent on his way, as Brett Hutton claimed two in two overs to put Notts firmly in the driving seat as Yorkshire scrambled at 104-6.
Harry Duke fell to Hutton first, caught behind by Kyle Verreynne, before Malan’s individual defiance was cut short when the right-armer pinned him lbw.
Abbas had been in the background whilst this skittling was going on, having taken care of both White Rose openers on the first evening, but he returned with a roar to clean up the tail.
In the third over of his second spell, Abbas bamboozled George Hill, who played down the wrong line to be bowled for just one, leaving Yorkshire
Staying on after lunch, Abbas did for Dom Bess too, as the batter advanced down the pitch but succeeded only in flashing an edge to Lyndon James at fourth slip to depart for seven.
Fired up, Abbas then both put himself on a hat-trick and completed his five-for by having Jordan Thompson snaffled by McCann at chest height in the slips for a golden duck.
Matty Revis made 27, and shared in a partnership of 35 for the final wicket with Ben Coad - the second-biggest of the Yorkshire innings - before the former became the last man out when he chopped on to Abbas.
Nottinghamshire captain Hameed shared 73 inside 16 overs for the first wicket with Slater in their second innings to more than double a commanding lead of 69.
Hameed was caught behind off a beauty from Jordan Thompson which bounced and nipped away before Freddie McCann was unlucky to have been given caught behind off Ben Coad for 15 shortly before tea with the score on 113 for two, a lead of 179.
But Slater, who was eye-catching on the drive, continued on.
He reached a well-paced fifty off 68 balls and shared 70 for the third wicket with Clarke before edging behind one which nipped away from Matthew Revis’s seam - 173 for three.
Clarke went on to reach his fifty off 55 balls, the right-hander continuing a strong run of red-ball form, and shared a day-ending unbroken 54 partnership for the fourth wicket with Jack Haynes, 13.
