Maddy Green says The Blaze are geared up to continue their strong start to the Vitality Blast as a home double header against Essex and Somerset approaches.

A 13-strong squad will welcome Essex to the Central Co-Op County Ground in Derby, before Somerset visit Trent Bridge 24 hours later.

“We’re really excited for the weekend ahead,” said New Zealander Green. “It should be a really good couple of games. We’ll be aiming to back up last Saturday’s win at Lancashire.

“I think we’ve played two really good matches. They were two really competitive contests, and it was really pleasing to see the girls get over the line last Saturday.”

Craig Cumming’s charges have picked up six points from their opening two games as they thrillingly tied with Bears at home before that commanding win on the road at Old Trafford.

Green says that attention has immediately turned to a tasty-looking clash with in-form Essex in Derby.

“I think Essex have come out strongly with the bat and put pressure on the bowling line-up. We’re going to have to play well against them,” she said.

“We especially know we’ll have to bowl well, because I think they’re a side with some dangerous players in their team.”

Following the tie with the Eagles, Green and The Blaze welcome Somerset to Nottingham, and despite the West Country outfit having endured a tough start, Green is guarded.

“I think T20 cricket just brings all teams closer together,” she explained.

“We know that Somerset have players in their team that can take the game away from us, so we know we have to play well.

“It’s about who shows up on the day, so we’ll be looking to execute our skills and come away with two wins from two this weekend.”

As her stint with The Blaze comes to an end, Green has also allowed herself a moment to reflect on a positive month in the East Midlands.

“It’s been great to come over here and play some cricket. It’s a really great group, and it’s been good to see everyone contribute.

I enjoy being here with the girls. We’ve got some class players in the team, so I’ve learnt a lot as well, and it’s been a great experience.”
